How Far, How High?
(ages 13-18)
How Far, How High? (Two Musicals, Two Acts)
Libretto, Music and Lyrics by Clay Zambo
Act I: FAITHFUL- A tale of...love and friendship.
Clement returns from college with news-he has met Odette, the girl of his dreams, and wants to marry her. Mother is thrilled, and so is his best friend, Fidele. Problems develop when Dr. Sosye, Odette's uncle and guardian, forbids the union claiming Clement isn't good enough for Odette. She defies him-but Sosye isn't just a doctor, he's a sorcerer, and he'd rather see Odette dead than married to a "common farmboy."
What follows is a magical lesson in friendship, faithfullness and survival.
Act II: THEY FLY- A tale of...a perfectionist father and his rebellious son.
Daedalus is the world's greatest inventor; Icarus, his son, is his apprentice. They've been living in the court of King Minos and doing amazing work, but it is Daedalus who earns the accolades. Icarus is forever hidden in his famous father's shadow. The greedy Minos imprisons the inventor and his son in a tower when he learns that they are both eager to see the world beyond his court. Daedalus knows the only way to escape the tower is up. They build wings.
What follows is a poignant lesson for teenagers and parents, as timely today as it was in Ancient Greece.
